Quebrada de Humahuaca: villages, bases and a realistic route

Think of the Quebrada as a corridor of villages, not a single excursion with as many stops as possible. Decide what you will do in each place and how much time it deserves.

Seven Colors Hill in Purmamarca, Jujuy

Choose experiences, not just photo stops

Purmamarca, Maimará, Tilcara and Humahuaca each have a dedicated guide here. Distinguish time in the village, a cultural visit and an outing beyond the centre. Nearby names on a list do not mean every activity fits into the same day.

A starting route

For three outing days, consider one each for Purmamarca, Tilcara and Humahuaca. Maimará can replace a stop for a different pace. This is an editorial example, not a package or confirmed timetable. Change your base, transport and pace in the planner.

Plan Salinas and Hornocal separately

Salinas is approached along RN52 from the Purmamarca corridor; Hornocal is considered from Humahuaca. Each has its own transfer and altitude considerations. Check transport, access and conditions rather than automatically adding either to a full day.

Check the road, final transfer and return before adding an excursion.
